First Try

OK. Now that Caringbridge is seeing so little traffic, I thought that I would continue to post about my girl's adventures, just under a different format. I know that they are something that I am going to want to read later on in life. I hope that the girls will too, although they may be really mad at me for some of the things I post about them. Oh well. Anyway. I am going to try and post at least once a week. I know that I have tried (and failed) to be good about that in the past, if at first you don't succeed....

Isabela and Maya's Adventures:

We have been in Rice Lake over Labor Day weekend. Both girls love spending time with the grandparents and they love spending time with them, which is good since we really need babysitters while we are here. So, while Mommy and Daddy are working on the new driveway, the girls have been playing in the sandbox and generally having an awesome time. Maya is standing up whenever possible and apparently loves digging her tiny toes down into the sand. She also loves the ongoing show of Isabela. Isabela was climbing the cargo net attached to her playhouse and of course catching frogs with Poppa. What more could a three and a half year old wish for? Maya is soon to be nine months old - hard to believe! Only a year ago Jake, Isabela and I were living in Rice Lake while I was on bedrest. And now here the little one is happy and healthy! I don't know what I ever did to deserve such sunshiny children, but they are awesome! Who knew being a mom was this much fun?
This morning Isabela helped me pick hazelnuts while Maya took a nap in the truck. Isabela was of course much more interested in the dirt on the driveway, or in having me crack hazelnuts for her to eat, than anything that actually contributed to picking, but that is OK since I no longer have to run after her. Last year we couldn't even get her to stop when she took off running (often). Now I can tell her to stay where I can see her, and, wonder of wonders, she actually does.
They are both such jabberboxes. Isabela talks about things nonstop and Maya contributes her two cents now too. Isabela often tells Maya to be quiet, which of course has zero effect, and we often tell Isabela to be quiet, which also has zero effect. So Jake and I only get to talk to each other after the girls are in bed. This weekend it has been peaceful since they are both so tired out after playing all day that they go right to sleep. At home it is a different story. Isabela tries all kinds of tricks. The other night after I had read her books and tucked her in, she asked for some "friends" (stuffed animals). I wanted to get other things done, so instead of asking her to pick three and going through the whole decision-making process, I dumped a whole load of them onto her bed. About a half hour later she yells that she needs help. I don't hurry to the rescue since I have heard this plea before, but once I get up there she has all of the animals tucked in around her. She says that she needs help with the elephant. The elephant is of course at the end of the bed and she can't reach it without disturbing everyone else - a cardinal sin I am sure. She is pretty cute about it ("Thank you Mommy, thank you"), but let me assure you that Jake and I get summoned by Her Highness quite often. It is hard not to laugh at her, and she definitely helps me keep my sense of humor.

Maya goes to sleep right away. She is a MUCH better sleeper than Isabela ever was. She usually wakes up at around 3 am and around 5:30 am. She goes back to sleep both times though, and we get a lot more sleep than when Isabela was a baby. I am so glad that we had her second. Isabela was an awesome baby and Maya is too, but she is definitely easier. She is more of an observer while Isabela is a doer. Both are wonderful in their own ways, but Maya is a little less exhausting on me. I wouldn't trade a moment though, of either of them. I know I am biased, but they are the greatest kids on earth!

I am getting tired. Gotta rest up for another day of Adventures. Actually I am letting the grandparents have the Adventures this weekend. Heh, heh. I am busy on the land. Less than two years until we build and so much to do before then!

Night all and since Andrew inspired the Adventures in the first place, especially to him.
